Online flat pegasus property retirement resources and information
It would be great if we could all retire with a nice portfolio of savings and pension income, without having to worry about paying the bills most retired people pay.
Yet...many retirees are living out their retirement on the breadline without much hope for even going on holiday without being assisted by relatives or even handouts. Don't let yourself be one of them...it's never too late!
Title : The Old Fool's Retirement Guide Author : Rob Davies Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Invaluable advice for not much money.
Unfortunately, the majority of people in the UK are rather ignorant of matters financial. As a Nation we are more than happy to delegate the management of our finances to so called "experts":- Financial advisers, pension consultants, Banks, Stock Brokers etc. etc. The big problem with this approach is the inescapable fact that all these middlemen take a big slice out of the individuals hard earned money in fees thereby reducing substancially the overall returns that are possible.
The antidote to this is to adopt the "Pick your own Strawberries" approach to your finances. In the same way that you can get lots of lovely strawberries for less money by picking them direct from the field yourself, (cutting out the middlemen!) you can, with a little time and effort adopt the same principles with your finances.
The Motley Fool series of books are the best I have yet come across to help the would be "Financial do it yourself'er". The OLD FOOLS RETIREMENT GUIDE is the latest in the series and is packed with invaluable information as to how to plan for your financial future. It is written in a concise easily digestible format and conveys it's very relevant points with humour and honesty. Pensions and investments need not be complicated as the City types would have you believe. This book blows a hole in the pomposity that surrounds finance and pensions. A great little read.
Title : Bankroll Your Future: Retirement with Help from Uncle Sam: How Government Perks and Policies Can Help You Preserve Your Income, Your Healthc Author : Ellen Hoffman Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Great book! Easy to understand, no-nonsense financial tips.
I enjoyed this book a great deal. Finally, an easy-to-follow guideline for those of us who might be overwhelmed by our future financial affairs. I bought copies for several friends.
Title : You've Earned It, Don't Lose It: Mistakes You Can't Afford to Make When You Retire Author : Suze Orman Rating : 1 Stars out of 5. Summary : The math is wrong
The time value of money analysis in this book does not take into account that money has time value and thus the results of the studies Orman presents are biased in the wrong direction. Also the rate of inflation of 5% is too high based on current and past values. This also biases the results. It is funny to see the results of her long term care insurance policy analysis. According to Orman, the insured pays in $1,255 each year for 30 years and alternately if they had not taked the policy get no credit for the compound growth rate this money would earn had not they taken the policy. It makes a huge different that was not considered Also there is a chart that shows a comparison of 5% simple and compound interest on an inflation rider. Certainly, inflation is not a simple interest growth rate. The data of Orman's table make no sense whatsoever and certainly have no bearing on the long term care policy decision.
Title : Get a Life: You Don't Need a Million to Retire Well Author : Ralph Warner Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : This is the best retirement planning book I've ever read!
This is the first retirement planning book I've ever read that realistically addresses how much money you really need to save for the lifestyle you want. I now realize that I don't need to save millions, that my current saving plan is perfectly adequate for the lifestyle I want. I can relax, enjoy my life and family, and work on retaining my health.
Title : One World, Ready or Not Author : Wil Greider Rating : 3 Stars out of 5. Summary : Take two aspirins, don't call me in the morning
A man goes to his dermatologist to have an ugly mole removed from his neck. He returns one week later to have his stitch removed.
"The good news is, you won't have any scar," the doctor says. "The bad news is, you'll be dead in six months."
Though many people criticize Mr. Greider's conclusions, few -- even eminent scholars -- can say why. They admit most of his facts are correct (damning with faint praise) without saying which facts are wrong. They provide simplistic parables about the economics of hot dogs and buns without benefit either of logic or evidence. In short, most of Mr Greider's "critics" seem more culpable than Greider of the crimes against intellectual integrity of which they accuse him.
Let's simply stipulate that Mr. Greider is like Ralph Nader, a Cassandra. Let's stipulate further that he is histrionic even paranoic. Let's simply rest with "the facts".
What we have left is the picture of a global economy in ICU, surrounded (a) by technicians who are not monitoring high performance, but failing vital signs; (b) by FedEx boxes for shipping body parts.
Had the world not already experienced an economic death but 70 years ago, we might dismiss Greider's prognosis.
So, his facts are worrisome; but, not as troubling as his prescriptions. He doesn't think it inevitable that the patient has to die because the "government" can somehow "keep it going" with a different IV solution, tracts to bolster the spirits of the patient's next of kin, and specific instructions to other governmental and cultural caretakers.
He doesn't satisfy me that he understands that we are not simply in another industrial revolution, but a post-industrial evolution. Yes, the whole world is changing, as it has several time before in the last 100,000 years -- but what comes from that process will be far better -- and simpler -- than what is now becoming ruins.
So, Mr. Greider gets full credit for research, and no credit for insight. Therefore, a 5.

Title : Iras, 401 (K)S Other Retirement Plans: Taking Your Money Out (IRA's, 401(k)S Other Retirement Plans: Taking Your Money Out) Author : Twila Slesnick Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Thorough coverage for the tax professional. Easy to use.
I do taxes. I have been a "tax professional," working for a reputable CPA firm, for eighteen years.
I imagine that most people think that we always read the most obscure laws, regulations and treatises on tax subjects before we make our decisions and recommendations. The fact is that most professionals are delighted to find publications which make good information easy to find. This book does that.
"How to Take Your Money Out" gives thorough coverage to a very complicated subject. Equally important is that it is almost enjoyable to read and that finding what you are looking for is easy. It is well organized and well indexed. When I looked for answers, I found them, on the first shot.
There are plenty of people, both professionals and taxpayers, who are wondering what to do about IRA and other retirement plan distributions. Having this book on the shelf will give you confidence that you'll know where to look when you need the answers.
Title : Safeguard Your Hard-Earned Savings Author : Ken Stern Rating : 1 Stars out of 5. Summary : Unfortunately, not terribly impressed
Lack of concise important information. Tends to be rambling, on and on, saying the same thing over and over. Almost appears to be written by someone simply interested in making money on his book, rather than the sincere desire to actually educate the public. Would pass on this one.
