Online age in retirement rise resources and information

It would be great if we could all retire with a nice portfolio of savings and pension income, without having to worry about paying the bills most retired people pay.

Yet...many retirees are living out their retirement on the breadline without much hope for even going on holiday without being assisted by relatives or even handouts. Don't let yourself be one of them...it's never too late!

Title : Your Next Fifty Years: A Completely New Way to Look at How, When, and If You Should Retire
Author : Ginita Wall
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A useful thought-provoker

This book is well-organized, thought-provoking, with helpful exercises to get you thinking about how you'll spend not only the next 50 years, but your next year or two. I found it very useful in terms of evaluating my own choices and plans, AND it has helped me broach similar issues with my mother who is moving into retirement. I highly recommend this book to anyone over thirty. Start thinking about this stuff now!

Title : You've Earned It, Don't Lose It: Mistakes You Can't Afford to Make When You Retire
Author : Suze Orman
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Excellent book

People spend their entire lifetimes working to amass wealth, but forget about protecting it. I bump into people every day who still think a will is enough---ENT! I also recommend Financial Self Defense and More Wealth without Risk by Givens. Suze's book is newer, but Givens offers techniques that work well with the information in this book.

Title : The Joy of Not Working: A Book for the Retired, Unemployed, and Overworked
Author : Ernie J. Zelinski
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : One of Top 3 books on business I've ever read

Even though the Joy of Not Working is technically not a business book, I'd lump it in that category nonetheless. I've read what seems like a gazillion books and I have to rate this little jewel as one of the three best business/lifestyle books I've ever read (the other two are Hawkins' Growing a Business and Lancaster's Secret Money Machine)--it's filled with wit and humor and tons of little tips. I've read it three times and Zelinski seems to add stuff between each reading. Enlighted guy!

Title : Age Power: How the 21st Century Will Be Ruled by the New Old
Author : Ken Dychtwald
Rating : 1 Stars out of 5.
Summary : More Dychtwaldian Drivel

There is nothing insightfull about this book! It's a compendium of information that is clearly available elsewhere. If the author is such an "expert" on the marketing of products to the ageing demographic one has to wonder why he can't keep any of his "Age Wave" businesses afloat. He's had a least two "Age Wave" businesses go under this year! The only thing this man knows how to sell is a book! Get advice from people with a proven track record, the authors is spotty at best.

Title : The 401(k) Millionaire: How I Started with Nothing and Made a Million and You Can, Too
Author : Knute Iwaszko
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Just Great!

I write as a retired individual who started investing toward the end of my career. When I was young I was advised to save $20 a month, but to someone who was earning $27.50 a week it was not in the cards. Much later when my company came out with a plan to match up to 10% of my contribution I started saving. Unfortunately travel enticed me more and I routinely dipped into these funds. With all of this, I was still, in retrospect and un-knowingly, following his plan. It does work. Too bad for me, that I did not have sufficient discipline and was not satisfied with reading about "Far-away Places". All in all, everything worked out for the best. Give it a chance and you will be very pleased with the results. Way to go Knute!

Title : How to Retire Rich
Author : James O'Shaughnessey
Rating : 2 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Started good, but then...

I don't know how to take this book. On the positive side, it offers seemingly reasonable investment strategies for inexperienced investors. At worst, the strategies are thought provoking. At best, they may be providing strategies that will make alot of people retire rich. On the negative side, I am skeptical of the author's intentions of writing this book. He sells mutual funds that implement the strategies (which is not necessarily a bad thing), but the funds have yearly fees of 1.5% each! That is very high for a passive fund. Why so high? All of a sudden, I want to stop reading. Finally, the book didn't teach me 250+ pages of info. It may be good for the new investor, but for one like me that has read a few books (but not done alot yet), it didn't offer alot of new insight. (I just can't get that 1.5% out of my head...)
