Online health ill retirement resources and information

It would be great if we could all retire with a nice portfolio of savings and pension income, without having to worry about paying the bills most retired people pay.

Yet...many retirees are living out their retirement on the breadline without much hope for even going on holiday without being assisted by relatives or even handouts. Don't let yourself be one of them...it's never too late!

Title : The Automatic Millionaire: A Powerful One-Step Plan to Live and Finish Rich
Author : David Bach
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Won't suit everyone but good for what it is...

The Automatic Millionaire outlines a method of becoming rich through a combination of scrimping and saving - despite its dynamic, exciting title, that really is all there is to it. The "automatic" part is no more than advising the reader to set up standing orders, direct debits or deductions from monthly wages, straight into a savings account (so you're not tempted to spend it). That's it.

The outlined strategy will work IF you start young enough. The examples given assume the aspiring millionaire is in their early 20s - plenty of time to make GBP1m through the power of compound interest - but too late for many people.

My main disappointment with the book is that the strategy outlined is for the long-run (40-50 years) so you'll be about 65 when you make that million. For anyone looking for a faster alternative, this isn't it. If you are (or know someone) who is 15-25 years old, I would recommend you get this book and follow its strategy (about savings in particular, not sure I agree with the pensions advice). Doing so will virtually guarantee financial security upon retirement. But if you want a strategy that delivers faster-returns, look elsewhere.

However, regardless of your age, the book outlines sensible (and widely-known) principles of personal money management so it's valuable for those who have no idea where to begin. But if you're already pretty savvy about "paying yourself first" and watching the pennies, you will get limited value from this book.

Title : Real Life Investing Guide: How to Buy Whatever You Want, Save for Retirement and Take the Vacation of Your Dreams While You're Still Young
Author : Kenan Pollack
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A personal library must! Says a Cincinnati Investor.

There is absolutely no better tool in the market today. It's a great handbook for those sophisticated Generation X'ers, and an even a better tool for that worldly, younger new generation who are blazing trails right behind the X'ers.

Hey Boomers, your children, the N'Gens, are going to take the world by storm. With your ideas and their cohesive, cooperative energetic spirit, there isn't anything that they won't accomplish.... But without the financial skills so wonderfully illustrated in this book, your child will be left behind the pack. He or She will fail to live up to their unbelievable potential.

As an owner of this book, I can honestly attest to its value. I think it should be part of every high school senior's core curriculum! It is the only book that can make sure your child is ready to assist his/her peers in shaping the future of America and the World.

If your school board has not yet adopted this text, then please makes sure before your son or daughter goes off to college this fall that they have this guidebook to the world of life. America and for that matter the World will be grateful.

A Financial Analyst and Real Estate Investor (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Title : Live Well in Ireland: How to Relocate, Retire and Increase Your Standard of Living
Author : Steenie Harvey
Rating : 1 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Only for Americans!

I bought this book for my English mother in law who was moving to Ireland but was very disappointed that it failed to address the main issues she faced as a pensioner moving to Ireland.
My main criticism is that it is written soley for the American market and compares living in Ireland with living in America. Secondly it was published prior to Irelands conversion to the Euro so prices are meaningless to the newcomer unfamiliar with the old Irish punts currency.
Thirdly it only touches on the social welfare system (which as a pensioner my mother in law was interested in).
Having lived in Ireland for several years I find the Ireland described in the book is quite far removed from the reality of my life in Ireland.
In my opinion this book does not serve as a useful tool to anyone considering relocating to Ireland and they would be far better served contacting either their National Embassy in Ireland or a local Citizens Information Centre situated in all major towns and cities throughout the country.
If you are American, can convert from punts to Euro and are not considering availing of any form of social welfare, then this book could be useful. If you do not fit these criteria, forget it.

Title : Get a Life: You Don't Need a Million to Retire Well (Get a Life: You Don't Need a Million to Retire Well)
Author : Ralph E. Warner
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : One of the best all round books on retirement planning!

As a Certified Financial Planner, I recommend this book to many of my clients who are seriously planning their retirements. Warner has done a great job putting things in the proper perspective with a book that is an "easy read". While adequate money is important to a satisfactory retirement (and helping clients build a satisfactory net worth is how I make my living), I do find, as has Warner, that there are more important things such as health, friends, and a purpose (i.e., reasons to get up in the morning) when it comes to planning out one's retirement. I frequently ask clients what they plan to do when they retire. When they say "go fishing" or "play golf", I then ask them what they plan to do the second week/month/year. And I keep asking the question until they realize that its a serious one. Warner takes it further with discussion and clear examples. In short, a must read for anyone approaching retirement.

Title : Invest in Yourself: Six Secrets to a Rich Life
Author : Marc Eisenson
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : small technics make big differences

It only took me 30 seconds to buy the book after I scan the titles of the chapters in a fantasitic bookstore in middle Taiwan...all matter to me even if I am a Taiwanese who's so different from those who are supposed to read it.The subject is so universal that, after wandering among the shelves for hours with limited budgets, I decided to take it. The book provides us with so many tips and give us so many substantial thoughts and agendas that a man has to take to make himself rich, materially and spiritually. I am so amazed that, even books about the same subjects in the books are countless, this is a real DIFFERENT book which is written on basis of the authurs' financial expertise and their ideas of helping people, withour meaningless preach and crabbs. This book is a real life bible. I am so glad that I have it.

Title : Invest in Yourself: Six Secrets to a Rich Life
Author : Marc Eisenson
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : "Invest in Yourself, Buy THIS book"

As a professional magician, I am always trying to make money appear from nowhere. As we all know, this is just an illusion. But with "Invest In Yourself, Six Secrets To A Rich Life", by Marc Eisenson, Geri Detweiler, and Nancy Castleman. You really can make money appear in your pocket. Best of all, it's YOUR money! And they teach you how to keep more of it, painlessly. No, it's not a magic trick. Just plain, down to earth advice on how to "Invest In Yourself". Like many people, I found myself struggling to make it from paycheck to paycheck. When I came across Marc's first book "The Bankers Secret", I thought it was fiction. Naturally, like many others, I was in debt denial. But once I started to practice what he preached. I saw my familys finances improve greatly. This meant more of our income staying in the household and not going to the bank holding our mortgage or the credit card companies. The stress relief alone was worth 50 times the cost of the book. I thought that Marc could never outdo himself. And then, "Invest In Yourself" was published. This should be the financial Bible in every home. They say that Great minds think alike and Marc, Geri, and Nancy have proven it to be true! No matter what your financial situation, This book is a MUST READ! Every chapter in the book can be applied to someone's unique situation. Best of all, you don't have to start at any particlar place. Look at each chapter, choose the one that best fits your situation, and read the best advice available today. We are all individuals with different circumstances, and this book is written for all of us. Planning for retirement, college, or just your life's journey, it's all covered in this masterpiece of financial advice. Six secrets to a rich life is exactly what it is. If you follow the advice of these three experts, you will enjoy more of your money, without stress, anxiety, or bill collectors. This is the BEST BUY of your lifetime in my humble opinion. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. What have you got to gain? Financial security for your future. A life with much less stress. More of your own money without having to sell your soul to your employer. Quality time with your loved ones. Peace of mind. I could go on forever because I love this book. So I will sum it up in six short words. "Invest In Yourself, Buy THIS Book" Steve Whateley WAMC Northeast Public Radio, Steve The D.J. Magician

Title : A Peaceful Retirement (Penguin Audiobooks)
Author : Miss" "Read
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A lovely and entertaining read, a book to get lost in.

Miss Read, again manages to captivate the feelings of those who to are approaching retirement; and also of those who aren't. Her characters are all someone you know in your own life. Always feeling that they could be so and so. I always felt as if I was included in the story, like I was a friend. I'm an avid reader of her books but it seems this is the last one? She puts such warmth and feeling into this book it spills out from every page. It is obvious that her friends are as devoted to her as she is to them whatever happens. The frequent requests of marriage from John Jenkins are bittersweet and has nearly succumb once or twice. Her lifelong friend Amy, trying so hard to matchmake over the years, tries not to let John Jenkins slip through Miss Reads' fingers but alas fails again. She gets great support from Henry Mawne, who has also been a suitor in the past but Miss Read also gently refused him. She looks forward to retirement with joy and some trepidation, however handles the situation very well. I hope there will be more stories from her in the not to distant future.
