Online retirement speech resources and information
It would be great if we could all retire with a nice portfolio of savings and pension income, without having to worry about paying the bills most retired people pay.
Yet...many retirees are living out their retirement on the breadline without much hope for even going on holiday without being assisted by relatives or even handouts. Don't let yourself be one of them...it's never too late!
Title : The 401(k) Millionaire: How I Started with Nothing and Made a Million and You Can, Too Author : Knute Iwaszko Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Just Great!
I write as a retired individual who started investing toward the end of my career. When I was young I was advised to save $20 a month, but to someone who was earning $27.50 a week it was not in the cards. Much later when my company came out with a plan to match up to 10% of my contribution I started saving. Unfortunately travel enticed me more and I routinely dipped into these funds. With all of this, I was still, in retrospect and un-knowingly, following his plan. It does work. Too bad for me, that I did not have sufficient discipline and was not satisfied with reading about "Far-away Places". All in all, everything worked out for the best. Give it a chance and you will be very pleased with the results. Way to go Knute!

Title : The Last Chronicle of Fairacre: "Changes at Fairacre", "Farewell to Fairacre", "Peaceful Retirement" Author : Miss" "Read Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Much-loved series reaches finale
Miss Read has written over 40 titles, with this handsome omnibus edition collecting her last three Fairacre stories.
"Changes at Fairacre", charts the heroine's relationship with her predecessor at the village school, Miss Clare. "Farewell to Fairacre" covers her decision to retire and the final tome shows how Miss Read copes with her new-found life of leisure.
In an afterword, the author says she is laying down her pen "with a thankful heart". It is all the more surprising therefore that these final tales show no sign of staleness. In particular, "A Peaceful Retirement" is quite playful in tone as Miss Read copes valiantly with a series of unlooked-for marriage proposals.
Given that the school year is so regular the author manages to describe events such as Christmas celebrations and harvest festivals with no sense of repetition, and as ever captures the tensions between town and country living, children's and adult worlds and men and women beautifully.
With "Last Chronicle of Fairacre", Dora Saint, the real-life Miss Read, can take her own retirement from authorship knowing that she has served her readers well.
Title : Peaceful Retirement (Windsor Selections S) Author : Miss" "Read Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : A lovely and entertaining read, a book to get lost in.
Miss Read, again manages to captivate the feelings of those who to are approaching retirement; and also of those who aren't. Her characters are all someone you know in your own life. Always feeling that they could be so and so. I always felt as if I was included in the story, like I was a friend. I'm an avid reader of her books but it seems this is the last one? She puts such warmth and feeling into this book it spills out from every page. It is obvious that her friends are as devoted to her as she is to them whatever happens. The frequent requests of marriage from John Jenkins are bittersweet and has nearly succumb once or twice. Her lifelong friend Amy, trying so hard to matchmake over the years, tries not to let John Jenkins slip through Miss Reads' fingers but alas fails again. She gets great support from Henry Mawne, who has also been a suitor in the past but Miss Read also gently refused him. She looks forward to retirement with joy and some trepidation, however handles the situation very well. I hope there will be more stories from her in the not to distant future.
Title : Iras, 401(k)S Other Retirement Plans: Taking Your Money Out (IRA's, 401(k)S Other Retirement Plans: Taking Your Money Out) Author : Twila Slesnick Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Excellent even if you're not 59 1/2 years old
This is a great resource--clear, concise, easy to digest, well indexed, and written for the lay person. Knowing the rules for taking money out of your retirement accounts is important even if you're still putting money away--it allows you to make much better decisions about your investments.
Title : Coming Up Short: The Challenge of 401(k) Plans Author : Alicia Haydock Munnell Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Warning for a disaster in the pipeline
Collective retirement accounts are out in the US. Saving for your own pension is in. Britain is going the same way. The argument in favor is that the saver can make his own invesment decisions. This book points out that this development tends to leave savers with too little money for a good pension. People underestimate how much money is needed. They put off saving. They overestimate investment returns and take very bad investment decisions. They do not realize the influence of the interest rate at the moment of retirement. The authors might have pointed out more clearly how individual accounts are far more risky than collective accounts. The book is not just a powerful indictment of the US system, but also a warning for the UK.
Title : Get a Life: You Don't Need a Million to Retire Well Author : Ralph Warner Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : A common sense approach to planning for retirement.
This book should be required reading for people in their 30's and 40's. It emphasizes keeping active, having a wide variety of interests, and developing friends of all ages. It's a good antidote to all those financial planners who try to make you feel guilty about not having "X" millions of dollars invested so they can make commissions off your money. A good gift for middle age yuppies.
