Karen Ferguson and Kate Blackwell have crafted a remarkable book that combines a thoughtful analysis of what ails the current retirement income system with some "how to" advice on how to get your own retirement income and pension questions answered and disputes resolved. This is as it should be for, as a collective citizenry, we are appalling ignorant about the structure of retirement income in the United States. In the same way, it is rare to meet a person (of any level of education) who fully understands their own retirement income plan. We, as responsible citizens and as tomorrow's retirees, need to learn a whole lot more. This book is the place to start.

Summary : Excellent book

People spend their entire lifetimes working to amass wealth, but forget about protecting it. I bump into people every day who still think a will is enough---ENT! I also recommend Financial Self Defense and More Wealth without Risk by Givens. Suze's book is newer, but Givens offers techniques that work well with the information in this book.

Summary : Helpful and informative

Our book club, The Islanders, chose this book to read last month because so many of us are facing the problem of caring for our aging parents. The book is well written and humorous, and full of important information for anyone who is concerned about providing a safe home for their parents. We all agreed that we wished the book touched more on the specific problems of dealing with Alzheimers and dementia, since many of our parents will be faced with these problems eventually. Also, the authors mentioned nursing home insurance, but didn't recommend any particular policy or company. There are so many confusing come-ons in the marketplace, that it would have been a great help if there was some information on comparing and evaluating policies. We felt we learned a lot about what we will be facing in caring for our parents, but would love to read more about insurance policies to cover nursing home services.

Summary : Worth reading.

A good book in that it allows you to compare Mexico with other countries. The only negative I can think of is that in the Mexico section the author refers to Mexico City throughout. Not many retirees want to settle in Mexico City.



Title : Rich Dad's Retire Young, Retire Rich: How to Get Rich Quickly and Stay Rich Forever! (Rich Dad)

Summary : Perpetual Motion Machine

The search for easy wealth is akin to the search for the "perpetual motion machine". It doesn't exist and this book also fails to deliver. Much of the advice deals with the USA only and the tax advice does not apply to the UK. Anyway if everyone took up the advice and reduced their payment of taxes governments would collapse; but then they wouldn't - the tax goal posts would be moved. I was unimpressed by the advice which could have been written on three pages, the rest being a repetitious mantra of this imaginary "rich dad" anecdotes.
My advice on the first step to being wealthy is save your money and do not buy this book
