It would be great if we could all retire with a nice portfolio of savings and pension income, without having to worry about paying the bills most retired people pay.

Yet...many retirees are living out their retirement on the breadline without much hope for even going on holiday without being assisted by relatives or even handouts. Don't let yourself be one of them...it's never too late!

Title : Your Guide to Retiring to Mexico, Costa Rica and Beyond: Finding the Good Life on a Fixed Income
Author : Shelley Emling
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Worth reading.

A good book in that it allows you to compare Mexico with other countries. The only negative I can think of is that in the Mexico section the author refers to Mexico City throughout. Not many retirees want to settle in Mexico City.

Title : Get a Life: You Don't Need a Million to Retire Well (Get a Life: You Don't Need a Million to Retire Well)
Author : Ralph E. Warner
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : One of the best all round books on retirement planning!

As a Certified Financial Planner, I recommend this book to many of my clients who are seriously planning their retirements. Warner has done a great job putting things in the proper perspective with a book that is an "easy read". While adequate money is important to a satisfactory retirement (and helping clients build a satisfactory net worth is how I make my living), I do find, as has Warner, that there are more important things such as health, friends, and a purpose (i.e., reasons to get up in the morning) when it comes to planning out one's retirement. I frequently ask clients what they plan to do when they retire. When they say "go fishing" or "play golf", I then ask them what they plan to do the second week/month/year. And I keep asking the question until they realize that its a serious one. Warner takes it further with discussion and clear examples. In short, a must read for anyone approaching retirement.

Title : A Peaceful Retirement
Author : Miss" "Read
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Another gentle and charming book from my favourite author

A change in direction with not only retirement but marriage proposals as well for my most loved fictional character. With all of the Fairacre books, a book I have read over and over - only with particular sadness as it appears that this may be the final book. I found the illustrations a bit off putting - part of my love of Miss Read's books are due to J Goodall's beautiful illustrations - not that these are bad, just not what previous readers may be used to. My only complaint is that it is too short!

Title : Wall Street on a Shoestring: Financial Success for Just Five Dollars a Day
Author : Clare La Plante
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Why should Warren Buffett have all the fun and success?

Why should Warren Buffett have all the fun and success? This book shows that you don't need to be a millionaire to make money on Wall Street (though it does still help). A nice, step-by-step guide to investment options for us ordinary souls.

Title : Modern Dutch Studies: A Volume of Essays in Honour of the Retirement of Peter King
Author :
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : An interesting collection of essays on Modern Dutch Studies

This book was published in honour of Professor Peter King who retired from the University of Hull. This book is a collection 20 essays falling into four general areas of Modern Dutch Studies: Language and Translation (5), Literature (8), Social Sciences (5) and Visual Arts(2). Each essay is written by a well-known expert in the field from various institutions such as University College London, University of Hull and the University of Leiden. There is a surprisingly wide range of topics, such as the use of CALL, Old High German in Ghent, Proper Nouns, Marxism in the Dutch Trade Union Movement, Political Culture in Belgium and Art Criticism.

This book is a very good read for those who are reading Dutch Studies or have a general interest in the topics. Overall I have found the book easy to read and it has provided me with lots of useful information too.

Title : Secure Your Future: Financial Planning at Any Age (Successful Business Library)
Author : Chuck Tellalian
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Shows how debt affects net worth

The very good chapter here on determining your net worth helps emphasize the effect of debt on your planning and projections.
Michael Pellecchia

Title : Beating the Age Game: Redefining Retirement
Author : Jack Ballard
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : An upbeat look at post career life

This book is an upbeat look at aspects of post-career life, of finding new interests and an informative and practical guide to leading lives that are longer and more rewarding totally based on your personal experiences. To believe that a curtain drops on life at age 60/65 leaving nothing to do but play golf makes no sense at all. Not only does that attitude fail to bring personal satisfaction it is inconsistent with recognized theories of human development. The book demonstrates practical methods for you specifically to avoid a damaging mind-set, details proven methods to adopt and nurture new attitudes, and specifically how to supplement your income based on your area of personal expertise - and new areas as well. Ways to make this a period of grace and growth rather than decline and decay.
