armed force retirement pension rate

armed force retirement pension rate

Online armed force retirement pension rate resources and information

It would be great if we could all retire with a nice portfolio of savings and pension income, without having to worry about paying the bills most retired people pay.

Yet...many retirees are living out their retirement on the breadline without much hope for even going on holiday without being assisted by relatives or even handouts. Don't let yourself be one of them...it's never too late!

Title : The Old Fool's Retirement Guide
Author : Rob Davies
Rating : 1 Stars out of 5.
Summary : foolish retirement

After reading the uk guide to investing which was a first class book, plain speaking , a good lesson in reviewing one's finances, but this book is plainly stating the obvious ,we all now that we need a large pot to retire on, so the money spent on this would have been best spent towards that.

Title : How to Retire Rich
Author : James O'Shaughnessey
Rating : 2 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Reasonable runaways - Best way to lose big monies!

Mr. O'Shaughnessy outlines several of his investment strategies and in particular his "reasonable runaways". If you look at his numbers AND factor in costs of establishing a similar group of stocks (something he neglects to do)the SP 500 is the clear winner.

A VERY IMPORTANT piece of investing advice that Mr. O'Shaughnessy advises against is the use of stop-limit orders in his portfolios. By neglecting to use this very important investment tool, you open yourself up to huge losses in the very questionable turnaround stocks that have just been run up in price. Most of these WILL go down and many they will go down big and not recover. Take the advise of someone that has been watching (and burned very badly) by taking his advice and not using stop-limit prices, USE THEM IF YOU EMPLOY THIS VERY RISKY STRATEGIE!!!

If you look at ANY of his mutual funds, you will clearly see that the performance of all of his funds badly trails the SP 500. His expense ratios are also out of line to the high side, something that he warns against in this book.

The three pieces of advice that are of any value in the entire book are to establish a plan, stick to it, and, if 87% (or so) of mutual funds (including his) do not match the performance of the SP 500, why are you investing in anything other than the SP 500?

Good luck to all!!!

Title : Non-Resident Offshore Tax Planning
Author : Lee Hadnum
Rating : 1 Stars out of 5.
Summary : I wouldn't trust it

At only 122 pages it's only about as thick as a magazine, this would be fair enough if it was accurate... however the area I was interested in regarding the sale of property in the uk while a resident in Spain as covered page 37-38 states I would escape capital gains tax altogether IS INCORRECT. The author does not understand the the concept of dual tax treaties which stop someone from paying tax twice but does not help in avoiding tax, so even though article 13(1) states that capital gains from immovable property MAY be taxed in the country it is situated (ie the UK) it does not prevent the Spanish from also taxing it if you are resident there (WHICH THEY WILL AT 15%), the author needs to understand MAY does not mean MAY ONLY.

Title : You'RE Retired Now What: Money Skills for a Comfortable Retirement
Author : Yolles
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : An excellent personal finance book for retirees/pre-retirees

You're Retired Now What? is an excellent personal finance book for retirees and pre-retirees, alike. It contains an abundance of valuable information and is written so that the average person can understand it. I highly recommend this book for any retiree or pre-retiree.

Title : Brilliant Deductions
Author : Wade B. Cook
Rating : 2 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Misnamed Title?!

This title is misnamed. There are no suggestions in here on where to deduct your union dues. This is more of Wade's asset protection strategies that he teaches in his seminars. Why is a cabdriver talking about taxes? Some professionals spend their entire careers working with, studying, and researching taxes. A cabdriver thinks Section 179 on asset expensing is a secret. All the tax professionals know about this advantage. A cabdriver wants to sell you on his seminars, tapes, Nevada corporations, internet service, etc. All the Wade Cook information is the same repackaged in a new format. It makes interesting reading, but follow your local professional's advice.

Title : Cashing in on the American Dream: How to Retire at 35
Author : Paul Terhorst
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Fifteen Years Later, They're Still Retired

This book, along with Your Money or Your Life, changed our lives. By following the advice outlined in these two books, we were able to quit our jobs in our forties and pursue other interests. We have been free of the daily grind for over four years now, thanks in part to Paul Terhorst, Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez (authors of YMOYL).

In a conversational style, Terhorst explains how he realized his job was sapping the life out of him, and how he used his skills as an accountant to devise a plan that would enable him to retire at 39 years of age. Unfortunately, the specific financial advice he gives (invest in high-yield certificates of deposit) is no longer possible. But number-crunching is not the most important message that Terhorst has.

Cashing in on the American Dream advocates a no-nonsense approach to determining just what you want in life. Do you want to be free of working for others? Then it might mean giving up your car and dinners out. But it doesn't have to mean giving up what you really love (or need). Terhorst and his wife, Vicki, have been retired almost twenty years now and have spent much of it traveling the world. They have health insurance abroad, because it's cheaper than U.S. insurance (where we still have no national health insurance), and better.

The Terhorsts have their own website and I like to check in on them once or twice a year. The fact that they have made their plan work all these years is more important than any advice they have. Cashing in on The American Dream is an inspiring book. If they could do it, why can't you?

Title : A Peaceful Retirement: Complete Unabridged
Author : Miss" "Read
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Another gentle and charming book from my favourite author

A change in direction with not only retirement but marriage proposals as well for my most loved fictional character. With all of the Fairacre books, a book I have read over and over - only with particular sadness as it appears that this may be the final book. I found the illustrations a bit off putting - part of my love of Miss Read's books are due to J Goodall's beautiful illustrations - not that these are bad, just not what previous readers may be used to. My only complaint is that it is too short!
